On 10th January 2023, we had the privilege of visiting Saviour Star Orphanage in Rumukwurusi, Rivers State. It was more than just an outreach; it was a reminder of why love, kindness, and community support matter so deeply—especially for children who do not have parental care.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the caregivers and the children. Their smiles, shyness, and curious glances said a lot even before any words were spoken. Many of these children have faced challenges no child should ever have to experience, yet they radiated a strength and joy that touched every one of us.
Our mission was simple but intentional: to provide essential support and to show love, care, and encouragement.
Outstanding Support: Sharing Essentials, Sharing Hope
We came with different essential items aimed at making daily life a little easier for the children and the home. These included things like foodstuffs, toiletries, and other basic supplies that are constantly needed in an orphanage setting. While these items may seem ordinary, in the hands of the children and caregivers, they become tools of comfort, dignity, and relief.
Seeing the appreciation on the faces of the staff reminded us that orphanages often depend heavily on the generosity of individuals, organizations, and communities. Every contribution—no matter the size—helps to keep the doors open, the lights on, and the children cared for.
Presence and Connection (STAR)
Beyond the material support, we were very intentional about spending time with the children. We interacted, played, talked, listened, laughed, and simply shared moments together. For many of them, this kind of attention and encouragement is just as valuable as any gift.
We encouraged them to believe in themselves, to dream big, and to hold onto hope no matter what life has thrown at them. We reminded them that they are seen, valued, and loved. These are words every child deserves to hear.
Appreciating the Caregivers (star)
The visit was also an opportunity to appreciate the incredible work being done by the caregivers and management of Saviour Star Orphanage. Day after day, they step in as family—nurturing, teaching, comforting, and guiding these children.
Their commitment is a powerful example of service and sacrifice. Supporting the orphanage is also a way of supporting these caregivers, strengthening their capacity to continue the amazing work they do.
A Call to KeepOur Work Giving (star)
Our time at Saviour Star Orphanage in Rumukwurusi was a reminder that we all have a role to play in caring for vulnerable children around us. Not everyone may be able to adopt or foster, but we can all do something—whether through donations, visits, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.
Every visit, every item given, every kind word, every prayer, and every act of support makes a difference.
As we left the orphanage, we did so with full hearts—grateful for the opportunity to give, but also deeply moved by what we received in return: lessons on gratitude, resilience, and the power of love.
May this be just one of many opportunities to stand with Saviour Star Orphanage and other homes like it, bringing light, hope, and support to children who deserve the very besT Read more
