Scholarships for Secondary School Students
Date: 22nd November 2023
Location: Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Rumukwurusi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State
Education should never stop because of lack of money—but for many families, school fees are a heavy burden. On 22nd November 2023, we visited Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Rumukwurusi, Port Harcourt with one goal in mind:

to keep more children in school and help them pursue their dreams.
Through our scholarship initiative, we awarded scholarships to selected students, lifting part of the financial weight off their parents and guardians and giving the students fresh motivation to stay focused on their education.
Easing the Burden of School Fees
For many families, paying school fees is a constant struggle. Some parents have to choose between feeding the family and paying for education. Sadly, this often leads to students:
- Missing classes due to unpaid fees
- Dropping out of school entirely
- Losing hope in their academic future
By providing scholarships, we aimed to break this cycle—even if for a few students at a time. The scholarships were designed to reduce the burden of fees and support continuous learning, so that bright and hardworking students are not pushed out of school because of finances.
Giving Students a Chance to Dream Again
During the event, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and gratitude. The scholarship beneficiaries, their classmates, and even teachers were visibly joyful. For many of the students, this was more than just financial help; it was a clear message:
- “You are seen.”
- “Your efforts matter.”
- “Your dreams are valid.”
We encouraged the students to take their studies seriously, maintain good conduct, and see this support as a stepping stone—not the finish line. Some students expressed their dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, and entrepreneurs. Knowing that their school fees were being supported gave them renewed confidence to keep going.
Partnering with the School for Lasting Impact
We also had the opportunity to interact with the school’s management and teachers at Community Comprehensive Secondary School. They shared how financial challenges often affect students’ attendance, concentration, and performance.
By offering scholarships, we were not only helping the students but also supporting the school’s mission to provide quality education. Teachers can teach more effectively when they know their students are not constantly at risk of being sent home for unpaid fees.
This partnership between the school, the students, their families, and our team is a powerful model for community-driven educational support.
Investing in the Future
Every scholarship awarded is an investment in the future—not just for the individual student, but for their families, community, and the nation at large. When a young person is empowered to complete their education:
- Their opportunities in life increase
- Their capacity to support others grows
- Their chances of breaking out of poverty improve
We believe that education is one of the most effective tools for long-term transformation, and we are committed to continuing initiatives like this.
A Call to Support Education
Our visit to Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Rumukwurusi, reminded us that there are still many students who need support. While we may not be able to help everyone at once, every single child we support matters.
We invite individuals, groups, organizations, and partners who share this passion for education to join us in:
- Sponsoring more scholarships
- Supporting educational materials
- Encouraging students through mentorship and guidance
Together, we can keep more children in school, help them pursue their dreams, and shape a brighter future for our communities.
